Moonlight, Running, and Brotherhood

My brother Matt and I ran a race together.  It was most fitting that we ran the Moonlight Madness 5k through downtown Winston-Salem (and Old Salem) - our hometown, in the dark of night.
 
We both run to stay in shape, and have run together a few times, usually while vacationing at Hilton Head Island.  But for many years I have wanted us to run a formal race together.  I just appreciate how close my brother and I have become over the past 15 years or so (my sister as well - but more on that later).  Growing up, we fought, and struggled against one another.  It was always hard for either of us to extend any type of grace to the other, but we do just that now.  And it just feels so great to me (as a younger sibling) to be on the same team as my big brother.  I guess youngest siblings never get over that, huh?

So, for this reason, it just seemed like we needed to do something (or a series of things) to act as a capstone to our friendship, and brotherly love for each other.  Running this race together through Old Salem, where we grew up going to skipping church together, was a sublime experience for me.  And one that I hope we can replicate , as we grow together.

Im 30....seriously.

I am turning 30 today. So in the spirit of reflecting on these first 30 years of living, I am starting this blog. So, to begin - I shall update my status in life (this sounds complicated, so I will just try this in "list form."): Noah = greatest thing that ever happened to me. having a child was like an act of god, immediatly enacting a revolution on my perspective. Everyone tells you that " it is going to change everything." But I think I internalized that in a way that seemed to say ... things outside of me would change ie: schedules, sleeping, finaces, etc. Those things do change. But I did not accept that it would be ME that would go through the most profound changes. What I mean is, that the world itself has not shifted, but my view of that world (like Picasso in his Cubist period) has been transformed.
