We went to the Candle Tea in Old Salem this year, and watched the Moravian women make candles, brew coffee, and play Christmas songs on a pre-Revolutionary organ. We ran around the square, and drank water from the pump. Noah went back to school the next week and wrote a book about Old Salem - and everything he saw. Roots.
And I admit that when we return to our home in these old mountains, my heart feels warmer. But I am always just a few miles away from that feeling. I can grab that special feeling from taking my family to Krispy Kreme (A W-S invention) on a winter night. Noah and Avery love the taste of hot doughnut now - just like the rest of America. But those glazed, sugary doughnuts make my heart beat just a little faster than everyone else.
