We Need to Talk About the Sidekicks

It is not everyday that you, A. Discover a new band, and B.  That band becomes your favorite band.
But these two things have happened to me, and it is totally amazing.

The Sidekicks.

I have always had a particular soft spot for melodic power pop.  But I also love a punk rock, driving rhythm section.  When the two mix, I am in heaven.


While in Chicago, I was able to finally visit Reckless Records, where I purchased the just released Happiness Hours by the Sidekicks.  I literally listened to it 12 times in its entirety.  It is a perfect record.

Music always helps me really feel things.  And this past Spring, I have had the feels a lot.  So, as usually happens in my life when I pay attention to it, the Sidekicks put out a new record just in time to reach me in the most complete way.  I am grateful.

And now they are coming to Durham.  And I will be there.  And it is going to be great.

Im 30....seriously.

I am turning 30 today. So in the spirit of reflecting on these first 30 years of living, I am starting this blog. So, to begin - I shall update my status in life (this sounds complicated, so I will just try this in "list form."): Noah = greatest thing that ever happened to me. having a child was like an act of god, immediatly enacting a revolution on my perspective. Everyone tells you that " it is going to change everything." But I think I internalized that in a way that seemed to say ... things outside of me would change ie: schedules, sleeping, finaces, etc. Those things do change. But I did not accept that it would be ME that would go through the most profound changes. What I mean is, that the world itself has not shifted, but my view of that world (like Picasso in his Cubist period) has been transformed.
