Its been quite a week for us. We attended the funeral of one of our friends, Todd on Sunday. It was a tough one, but made bittersweet as it was a reunion of sorts of lots of old friends (and students). It just reminded each of us how important our connections are in life - at the end of the day, it truly is all we have. Then we had to deal with some pretty standard teenage missteps through which we needed some friends to help guide us.. Everyone was fine, but we just needed our others to help guide us through, and luckily, we are surrounded by lifelong friends around here. They know us, and they know our kids - and they are gracious to us. Everything worked out great, and big lessons were learned - but not without help. And our week ended with Avery being asked to rejoin his travel soccer team, which had been stressful. He stepped away from his travel team last year to try out basketball and track. Though he enjoyed both, he really missed his soccer team (especially his buddies and the hotels!). He had to tryout for his old spot though, as the roster was full. He has been waiting for several weeks to find out if he would be invited back - and today he was!
AND, we were able to see some of our best friends ever this month, when the Broadwaters came through Asheville. Just being around those people makes my heart grow ten times.
Connections with fellow humans remains the glue of the human experience, and without it - we can easily get lost. Starting the year off with gratitude..
