Teacher Work Day - No Matter What.

My school district is out of school again today because of snow. This now brings the tally of days missed due to weather to a whopping 14 days! I have never experienced a winter quite like this in my 32 years as a North Carolinian, and it has taken a toll on the schools, for sure. I have diligently used many of my free days to take care of urgent business: go snowboarding, eat Indian food, take runs, and watch the Daily Show - so I feel pretty good about my use of time. :)

But today is different - I can no longer take "days off." Seriously, even if we are not officially in school - I have to complete school work; namely grading papers, calling parents, and planning. And let me be clear - I am happy about it. I WANT to be in school. I am tired of snow, and I miss my students. So today (as you can see by the pic), was a Teacher Workday for Ben Graham...and I graded LOTS of essays on the expansionist policies of the Russian and Spanish Empires, and the growth of a global economic system in the 16th Century.....and it was fun.

Burrito Bracket

Im 30....seriously.

I am turning 30 today. So in the spirit of reflecting on these first 30 years of living, I am starting this blog. So, to begin - I shall update my status in life (this sounds complicated, so I will just try this in "list form."): Noah = greatest thing that ever happened to me. having a child was like an act of god, immediatly enacting a revolution on my perspective. Everyone tells you that " it is going to change everything." But I think I internalized that in a way that seemed to say ... things outside of me would change ie: schedules, sleeping, finaces, etc. Those things do change. But I did not accept that it would be ME that would go through the most profound changes. What I mean is, that the world itself has not shifted, but my view of that world (like Picasso in his Cubist period) has been transformed.
