He Shoots. He Scores.

Our neighborhood hosts a yardsale every Spring and Fall. The HOA advertises it, and all one has to do (if interested) is put any stuff one wants to sell outside, and be around. It is really a great idea, because it motivates us to unload things that we are not using. Plus, it is just a great community thing to do, ya know. It brings all of teh neighbors out, and everyone drinks coffee together and talks. I love it.
So, our Neighborhood yardsale was this past Saturday, and we sold a few small ticket items - as usual. But this time something incredible happened. Let me digress...

When we were looking to buy a new house about two years ago - we had a "dealbreaker" list of items that were absolute prerequisites for this new house. The idea being that if we were going to go through all of this trouble to move and whatnot - that we should get what we want. So, I can not remember some of the things that were on the list, but it included things like: a good yard, a paved and level driveway, a covered front porch, central air, etc. We got all of them in our present house, especially the paved and level driveway. The reason this was important to us was because we wanted an area to ride bikes, skateboards, and scooters - as well as have a basketball goal. I grew up with a basketball goal in the driveway - and I LOVE to shoot hoops. For some reason, shooting hoops in the evening is kind of ZEN for me. So, for 3 neighborhood yardsales, I have been steadily looking to pounce on a b-ball goal. And this past saturday, we hit gold!
One of our neighbors, who has two kids in high school was unloading lots of stuff. Noah and I walked over to look at their stuff, and were shooting the bull. I had been eyeing their goal for some time, because it looked nice, was in great condition, and had a square backboard - to which I am partial. (5)I casually asked if it (4) was for sale, and (3) she said, " $10 and it is yours." (2) He shoots...(1).he scores! Yes!

So, the past few nights I have been knocking down jumpers from 15 feet, and collecting my zen-like thoughts. It is beautiful, and a real dream come true for me. Look out - I may need to construct a tea garden next :)

Burrito Bracket

Eating a ginormous burrito at El Farolito in San Francisco, 2004 I LOVE burritos.  It is a passion that I share with my brother, and we actively seek out a quality burrito in almost every place we visit (Jessica is more of a Fish Taco kind of gal, but she enjoys burritos as well).  My love affair began around the age of 18, in the parking lots of Phish shows - where I could find any number of amazing burritos, cooked up on a dirty Coleman stove.  I just loved the explosion of flavor (and surprise) that came with each burrito I ate in those years. One of the the first times I visited Asheville for a few days in college, I came across Rio Burrito, a now defunct burrito-specific shop on Biltmore Avenue.  I went there all the time, and got to know all the nice folk who worked there.  So, I was quite disappointed when they shut it down - so much so that I wrote about it here.   But when Mamacitas opened in downtown Asheville in Spring 2004, I was smitten...

Im 30....seriously.

I am turning 30 today. So in the spirit of reflecting on these first 30 years of living, I am starting this blog. So, to begin - I shall update my status in life (this sounds complicated, so I will just try this in "list form."): Noah = greatest thing that ever happened to me. having a child was like an act of god, immediatly enacting a revolution on my perspective. Everyone tells you that " it is going to change everything." But I think I internalized that in a way that seemed to say ... things outside of me would change ie: schedules, sleeping, finaces, etc. Those things do change. But I did not accept that it would be ME that would go through the most profound changes. What I mean is, that the world itself has not shifted, but my view of that world (like Picasso in his Cubist period) has been transformed. It has been a traumatic shift for me, but in a beautiful way. Stop everything. "Icky Thump" by the White Stripes just came on the ipod. Sweet Jesus t...
