Last week, I had been so excited about the upcoming NC Mountain State Fair that my friends and family had started to tease me. But I stayed on course, and just embraced my ever growing excitement all the way through it. So on Thursday, we met our great friends the Cooks there, and had an extraordinary time. Mostly, because all of us were open to the adventure that is the fair.
We ate the Krispy Kreme burger, funnel cake, and cotton candy. Noah rode the Tilt-a-whirl for the first time, and Avery broke down crying in the Dinosaur Bouncy House. We witnessed a dude being shot out of a cannon, and watched live bluegrass. We saw a talking dog drive a truck, and heard songs by both Def Leopard and Motley Crue. We rode both the chair lift and the swings twice, and topped it off with snow cones.
Magic.
Simply, the kids are just at the perfect age for the fair. Their excitement and lack of inhibition is what makes me feel so alive. And especially lately, I have wanted to continually be as close to each of them as possible - as their open and curious approach to the all the beautiful strangeness of the human experience is addictive. The fair can bring out the kid in all of us, and this year - we just allowed it to happen.
