My nephew is a competitive swimmer. As a result my brother and sister in law spend most all of their weekends at swim meets across the central part of North Carolina. Attending these swim meets has become increasingly important to my sister in law, as she has gone through a long and tiresome treatment for cancer throughout the winter, and into this spring. And though she has been tired and uncomfortable, she has been at her son's meets.
So, we were so excited when we found out that they would be coming up to our town of Asheville this weekend for a swim meet. So, this past weekend they came up and stayed at our little 1928 home, and we made the most of it. For better or worse, they had a true local-yocal Asheville experience. We cheered for Sam at his city of Asheville public pool meet, ate like kings at Asheville Pizza and Brewing, and took my brother to Green Man Brewing (his favorite brewery on earth, mostly because they have a strong IPA and name many of their beers after heavy metal band references, ie: The Red Barchetta). We finished up the night at one of our favorite watering holes - Wedge Brewery, where we ate the best Bibimbap you have ever tasted from the El Kim Chi food truck, or some face-melting thin crust pizza at Tin Can Pizza food truck. We did a couple of chinese fire drill's while a train passed, and topped it off with some fro yo from Yo Lo.
It was wonderful to spend time with family, and to see Jennifer feeling good enough to run around the town. We are lucky to have each other, and lucky to have this time.
