We got our biggest snow of the past five years yesterday, with Old Man Winter piling on somewhere between 5 and 7 inches throughout Asheville. I have been recovering from a fairly serious bout with some flu-like symptoms, but this morning I felt quite well. So, by 9:00 Noah and I were sledding, building a snowbunny, eating snow - and Jessica was photographing for us. We have a great yard for sledding, with just the right amount of slope. So, we packed a nice little run, that not only us, but various neighborhood kids were enjoying. Jessica took some video of Noah making the run in our front yard, but as he continued, he really picked up some serious speed. You can hear Noah say, "Hey snowman" as he passes Mr. Frost. But then is when it gets interesting. Notice when Jessica gets nervous and almost drops the camera, as Noah plunges over a precipice - and I take off running in an attempt to catch him, before he lands in the creek. Man, we are not in the running for "parents of the year" huh? The great thing is that when I finally stopped Noah, he said, "Let's do it again!"
Eating a ginormous burrito at El Farolito in San Francisco, 2004 I LOVE burritos. It is a passion that I share with my brother, and we actively seek out a quality burrito in almost every place we visit (Jessica is more of a Fish Taco kind of gal, but she enjoys burritos as well). My love affair began around the age of 18, in the parking lots of Phish shows - where I could find any number of amazing burritos, cooked up on a dirty Coleman stove. I just loved the explosion of flavor (and surprise) that came with each burrito I ate in those years. One of the the first times I visited Asheville for a few days in college, I came across Rio Burrito, a now defunct burrito-specific shop on Biltmore Avenue. I went there all the time, and got to know all the nice folk who worked there. So, I was quite disappointed when they shut it down - so much so that I wrote about it here. But when Mamacitas opened in downtown Asheville in Spring 2004, I was smitten...
