Straight up. . .what the f*#k was I thinking when I wrote the previous post? I was looking forward to "the driving aspect of the trip as much as the destination?" Did I forget that I have a four month old...in the car....for extremely long stretches of road....where we can not pull over to nurse him...or change him? What is wrong with me?So, Jessica and I concur that we literally had the longest two roadtrips of our lives last week (going to Hilton Head, and returning to Asheville). To be fair, we drove into the worst traffic we have ever encountered on this trip (often standstill, always
congested) - but poor Avery had a hard time. He was uncomfortable, kept pooping, was hungry often, and the Outback is simply not the most condusive vehicle for transporting all four of us - plus all of our stuff. When we we stuck in standstill traffic about 20 minutes west of Columbia, and Avery had been screaming for 15 minutes - Jessica and I thought we were going to die. But, alas - we made it out (by talking to truckers, and driving the wrong way on entrance ramps and such - traffic laws...what are they good for?), and now I feel guilty for even complaining about such trivialities when there are much worse things. But the gold medal goes to Noah. The kid maintained his poise throughout the roadtrips, though it took a fair amount of ringpops and nerds to make it bearable. The silver medal goes to Jessica - who is truly able to dig deep for some patience and resilience that I envy. Avery and I did not place. :)

As always we had a wonderful time with the whole family. We rode
bikes everywhere, on every day. We swam in the pool, played games (Blind Man's Bluff, Pictureka, Candyland, Foursquare, Uno, etc) jumped in the ocean, and spent a lot of time at South Beach. Noah climbed the Harbour Town Lighthouse, and got a pirate flag soon after, and rode a pony the next day. We rode the trolley, toured the nature preserve, saw the Baynard ruins, and ate like champs. I love being with my brother and sister, and just playing with the kids all day. We continued to operate on a less-than-ideal sleep schedule, but aside from that, it was a welcome break.
