Jessica and Leah are Silly.


Last weekend we had the great treat of seeing our friend Leah. Jessica met her while working at Brevard College, and she now lives in Raleigh. So it is rare, and always great, to see her. We ate asian food with her and her boyfriend, Rich. He was wearing a t-shirt that was a complete cheatsheet history of the USA - written upside down for better effect. It made me want to hug him for a really long time. I had just met him. It felt awkward. Anyways, Jessica and Leah were hilarious. When together they act like they are 13 again - which brings them closer to my daily maturity level. Stupid jokes, silliness, and tom foolery abound. They even took about 20 hilarious photos (where they pretended that they did not realize that "someone" was taking photos.) Noah got to play on the Double Decker bus while they posed. (You have to appreciate just how funny Leah is. I mean, her plan was to make Jessica, Noah, and I think that Rich could only speak korean (his family is Korean) throughout dinner. She was just going to smile and nod the entire time. Then, afterwards, he was just going to start speaking english. Unfortunatly, they forgot to do it. But that is really funny.)
In other news: now that the weather is consistently nice, hiking is the dominant activity each weekend. The whole family went to Warren Wilson and spent some time on the River trail last weekend. That is probably our favorite hike. It is beautiful, fairly easy, and has great areas to play in the Swannanoa river- which Noah especially enjoys. Melissa is in town, so she and Jessica went shopping for stuff this morning - which left the boys time to head down the Mountains to Sea Trail. We had to stop and eat Spider Man treats. Noah even willingly shared. Wow! This is certainly the most busy time of year to work in a school, so we are both swamped with stuff to do. But it has been a great year, and the end is always bitter sweet.

Burrito Bracket

Eating a ginormous burrito at El Farolito in San Francisco, 2004 I LOVE burritos.  It is a passion that I share with my brother, and we actively seek out a quality burrito in almost every place we visit (Jessica is more of a Fish Taco kind of gal, but she enjoys burritos as well).  My love affair began around the age of 18, in the parking lots of Phish shows - where I could find any number of amazing burritos, cooked up on a dirty Coleman stove.  I just loved the explosion of flavor (and surprise) that came with each burrito I ate in those years. Im 30....seriously.

I am turning 30 today. So in the spirit of reflecting on these first 30 years of living, I am starting this blog. So, to begin - I shall update my status in life (this sounds complicated, so I will just try this in "list form."): Noah = greatest thing that ever happened to me. having a child was like an act of god, immediatly enacting a revolution on my perspective. Everyone tells you that " it is going to change everything." But I think I internalized that in a way that seemed to say ... things outside of me would change ie: schedules, sleeping, finaces, etc. Those things do change. But I did not accept that it would be ME that would go through the most profound changes. What I mean is, that the world itself has not shifted, but my view of that world (like Picasso in his Cubist period) has been transformed.
