Jessica's new phone takes pictures.

Jessica got a new phone. It can take pretty damn good pictures. We are about 3 years behind the cellular tech curve. I wonder why? Oh yeah - we had a kid 2. 5 years ago. "Well, that did not stop you from liberally buying new ipods, did it?" you exclaim, with a tinge of attitude. Well, one has to have priorities, ya know? Here is one of her first attempts at cellular picture taking. Noah was running as fast as he could across UNCA's quad as this pic was snapped. Come to think of it, we probably should have been paying better attention to our child. I mean, he could be in Nevada by now. Noah, if you are reading this - call your mom and dad.

On other notes: My AP Exams are over, and it feels good. My students feel happy, and that makes me happy. I am heading to Colorado in about two weeks, so I am getting very excited, and realizing that I am going to have to do some premeditated packing - something I am unacustomed to. (Must remember alarm clock, blowpops, sweatshirts, and Sunchips). With my AP stuff, Jessica's school in the middle of EOGs, and Noah cutting a freaking molar (which means he has been taken over by Mr. Grupilicious and Ceasar Afustus lately), I have been just a wee bit stressed out lately. So I have been listening to a lot of Sigur Ros - which makes me feel peaceful. So, their website has these amazing songs/videos on it. Oh yeah, and Jessica bought a pair of used cowboy boots a few days ago. Once she got them, she found that they were signed by George Strait. Here are some notable tidbits about Mr. Strait (a la Wikipedia): "Strait's 38 hit albums (12 multi platinum, 22 platinum and four gold) rank him only behind Elvis Presley and The Beatles. He is also a big fan of the NBA's San Antonio Spurs and can be seen courtside at many of the Spurs' home basketball games." Spurs? Tim Duncan plays for the Spurs. He played for Wake. (and we still couldn't go to the Final Four!! Ah!)

Burrito Bracket

Eating a ginormous burrito at El Farolito in San Francisco, 2004 I LOVE burritos.  It is a passion that I share with my brother, and we actively seek out a quality burrito in almost every place we visit (Jessica is more of a Fish Taco kind of gal, but she enjoys burritos as well).  My love affair began around the age of 18, in the parking lots of Phish shows - where I could find any number of amazing burritos, cooked up on a dirty Coleman stove.  I just loved the explosion of flavor (and surprise) that came with each burrito I ate in those years. One of the the first times I visited Asheville for a few days in college, I came across Rio Burrito, a now defunct burrito-specific shop on Biltmore Avenue.  I went there all the time, and got to know all the nice folk who worked there.  So, I was quite disappointed when they shut it down - so much so that I wrote about it here.   But when Mamacitas opened in downtown Asheville in Spring 2004, I was smitten...

Im 30....seriously.

I am turning 30 today. So in the spirit of reflecting on these first 30 years of living, I am starting this blog. So, to begin - I shall update my status in life (this sounds complicated, so I will just try this in "list form."): Noah = greatest thing that ever happened to me. having a child was like an act of god, immediatly enacting a revolution on my perspective. Everyone tells you that " it is going to change everything." But I think I internalized that in a way that seemed to say ... things outside of me would change ie: schedules, sleeping, finaces, etc. Those things do change. But I did not accept that it would be ME that would go through the most profound changes. What I mean is, that the world itself has not shifted, but my view of that world (like Picasso in his Cubist period) has been transformed. It has been a traumatic shift for me, but in a beautiful way. Stop everything. "Icky Thump" by the White Stripes just came on the ipod. Sweet Jesus t...
