My Longboard.

Did I mention that for my birthday I bought a Longboard (Check out this video of people longboarding - and the song is by Interpol - an amazing band. enjoy!) off of Craig's List? I bought it from this british guy in north Asheville. When I got to his house, he had this other, old skateboard just sitting there. I asked him if he wanted to throw it in for an extra ten dollars. He had to think about it. It was cool. We actually bargained a bit. I am not the best, or most experienced wheeler & dealer around; but my dad is. My dad can make an eskimo ( or, Inuit) pay $1000 for an ice cube. It is impressive, and said skill provided my needs for the first 20 years of my life. Possibly because of his almost diety-like ability to bargain, I never took the time to perfect the skill. But now that I have lived on my own for a decade, I am getting better at it. And it reaped benefits at this exchange, as I walked away with a longboard, a skateboard, and an extra set of wheels for a good price.

Anyways, I have been longboarding lately. I skateboarded a lot as a young kid. I had a quarter pipe in my driveway and shattered my wrist on it. Once I got into girls, and could drive a car - I forgot about skating. But I have continued to follow the sport, and I still love it. I also love to snowboard, so longboarding seemed like a perfect fit. I am loving it so far, and Asheville has great hills for it. Not that I am going to ignore my other skateboard, which is calling me to try an ollie. But I do not need a broken bone right now, so I will be on the longboard. And Noah and Jessica are having a good time with it as well. They are both giving the boards a shot, and enjoying it. It is funny how two year olds have no fear. Perfect for skateboarding, huh?

We are off to Lake Wylie, and then to Charlotte, in a few hours. So I will hollaback when we get home. Oh yeah, they finished reflooring our bathrooms and man they look great. We are excited.

Burrito Bracket

Eating a ginormous burrito at El Farolito in San Francisco, 2004 I LOVE burritos.  It is a passion that I share with my brother, and we actively seek out a quality burrito in almost every place we visit (Jessica is more of a Fish Taco kind of gal, but she enjoys burritos as well).  My love affair began around the age of 18, in the parking lots of Phish shows - where I could find any number of amazing burritos, cooked up on a dirty Coleman stove.  I just loved the explosion of flavor (and surprise) that came with each burrito I ate in those years. One of the the first times I visited Asheville for a few days in college, I came across Rio Burrito, a now defunct burrito-specific shop on Biltmore Avenue.  I went there all the time, and got to know all the nice folk who worked there.  So, I was quite disappointed when they shut it down - so much so that I wrote about it here.   But when Mamacitas opened in downtown Asheville in Spring 2004, I was smitten...

Im 30....seriously.

I am turning 30 today. So in the spirit of reflecting on these first 30 years of living, I am starting this blog. So, to begin - I shall update my status in life (this sounds complicated, so I will just try this in "list form."): Noah = greatest thing that ever happened to me. having a child was like an act of god, immediatly enacting a revolution on my perspective. Everyone tells you that " it is going to change everything." But I think I internalized that in a way that seemed to say ... things outside of me would change ie: schedules, sleeping, finaces, etc. Those things do change. But I did not accept that it would be ME that would go through the most profound changes. What I mean is, that the world itself has not shifted, but my view of that world (like Picasso in his Cubist period) has been transformed. It has been a traumatic shift for me, but in a beautiful way. Stop everything. "Icky Thump" by the White Stripes just came on the ipod. Sweet Jesus t...
