Slow Motion Gratitude

I remain in a state of slow motion. I am struggling to believe that what is happening to us (with all of this buying and selling homes), is actually happening to us. To be fair - it actually could collapse, as real estate transactions are in no way a done deal until they are ..well.. a done deal. Either way, I am going through this experience with so much gratitude that I feel guilty. And I feel like I am watching all of this from above - and it is unfolding in slow motion.

You see, this whole experience is a gift for me. We have been trying so tediously to live our lives with full intention - and our move to this new house is a huge part of it. But this time we feel like we had very little to do with the outcome. I mean, we cleaned our house and stuff, but the big stuff was (and is) beyond our control.

I guess what I mean to say is that it would be easy (and I would understand) if people were a little put off by our recent (possible) good fortune in real estate. So this week, as more folks found out about our recent adventures in the housing market - I noticed that I am surrounded by phenomenal people. We have recieved the most loving and graceful messages, pats on the back, smiles, and hugs from selfless people who genuinely care about our happiness. When we completed the home inspection yesterday at (what hopefully will be) our new house - our friend Heather and one of her children were across the street playing. I spoke with them for a while, and it occured to me that I am exactly where I am supposed to be. I do not know if you have ever experienced that feeling of being in the moment, and knowing that it is right. But I felt that yesterday. And I was not questioning how I ended up in this place in life, or where it is headed - just that it felt right.

It is so clear to me that there are a lot of people in our lives right now that I just adore and respect - and I REALLY want these people (many of whom are reading this) to think I am an okay guy. I am not saying that I want to buy all of you folks new cars or something. I simply hope that all of you guys out there will allow me to continue to remain a part of your community. I want to feel trusted by good people. And as I watch my life unfold in its own way - much of it well beyond my control - I see so clearly that we are not alone. Thank you.

Burrito Bracket

Eating a ginormous burrito at El Farolito in San Francisco, 2004 I LOVE burritos.  It is a passion that I share with my brother, and we actively seek out a quality burrito in almost every place we visit (Jessica is more of a Fish Taco kind of gal, but she enjoys burritos as well).  My love affair began around the age of 18, in the parking lots of Phish shows - where I could find any number of amazing burritos, cooked up on a dirty Coleman stove.  I just loved the explosion of flavor (and surprise) that came with each burrito I ate in those years. One of the the first times I visited Asheville for a few days in college, I came across Rio Burrito, a now defunct burrito-specific shop on Biltmore Avenue.  I went there all the time, and got to know all the nice folk who worked there.  So, I was quite disappointed when they shut it down - so much so that I wrote about it here.   But when Mamacitas opened in downtown Asheville in Spring 2004, I was smitten...

Im 30....seriously.

I am turning 30 today. So in the spirit of reflecting on these first 30 years of living, I am starting this blog. So, to begin - I shall update my status in life (this sounds complicated, so I will just try this in "list form."): Noah = greatest thing that ever happened to me. having a child was like an act of god, immediatly enacting a revolution on my perspective. Everyone tells you that " it is going to change everything." But I think I internalized that in a way that seemed to say ... things outside of me would change ie: schedules, sleeping, finaces, etc. Those things do change. But I did not accept that it would be ME that would go through the most profound changes. What I mean is, that the world itself has not shifted, but my view of that world (like Picasso in his Cubist period) has been transformed. It has been a traumatic shift for me, but in a beautiful way. Stop everything. "Icky Thump" by the White Stripes just came on the ipod. Sweet Jesus t...
