Jessica, Melissa (Who Noah calls "Mel Mel"), Noah, and I went to Hickory Nut Gap Farm in Fairview last Sunday. How amazing is it to watch a toddler explore a working farm? Noah had actually been to Hickory Nut Gap (HNGF) before, but seemed to have no real memories of it. They have chickens, pigs, horses, sheep, turkeys, pumpkins, apples, tractors, and a corn maze. Noah liked the baby chicks the most though - at one point getting close enough to kiss them (see pic). We go to HNGF to get pumpkins in the fall, and it is so much fun to pick out apples, and drink fresh cider. In addition, Fairview, NC is still quite rural - and the mountains are striking there, espcially in the fall. The Drover's Road used to run through Hickory Nut Gap (and downtown Asheville), carrying farmers (and their livestock) from the mountains of East Tennessee to the markets of South Carolina. So this is an area that has enjoyed an active past - and you can feel it when you are there. And Noah had a good time.
